Is your software 'up to date' ?

Hiya friends, neighbors, brothers, sisters... OK you get the picture …
Hope you’ve all been having a swell time? Do I hear a YAY!!!!!? Dat’s what I’m talkin’ ‘bout….
I would like to share with you a ‘rev’ that I just got… (Someone say amen sister!). So here I go ….

I Mettabel as female as I am, am a very ‘techie’ female - I love gadgets of all sorts – Nav systems, computers, Bluetooth, Greentooth - you know the earth friendly version of Bluetooth (sshhh that’s new– will hit the market in 2012. So please keep it on the down low. I SAID….).

Anyway as I was saying I love techie toys and I had put a leash on my “techieholism” for a while until recently I relapsed when I spied a phenomenon at Costco ! Much like Moses I decided to stop and examine this thing closer….. It was a bluray player! and not just any kind of bluray player, one that could actually connect through my home network to Pandora AND to Netflix - streaming music AND movies directly to my TV wow! I had to have this wonderful contraption…. Looking surreptitiously over my shoulder I bundled one of the last remaining ones onto my cart and behold it suddenly appeared in my home – how it got there?.... well…. Let me go on with my story. Once I got home I excitedly connected my new toy having banished my old trusty DVD player to the basement, only to find out that I needed a LAN adaptor to connect to the Internet, which was not included in the box. Saying a “loving” prayer for the store attendant that did not give me this bit of information, I paused the installation process.

A few days later, after having scoured the Internet – Amazon, half.com, eBay etc, I finally decided to purchase the adaptor at Best buy and to make my joy complete, they did a price match with Amazon, giving me a great deal on the price. I proudly took my new purchase home and eagerly connected it to the player but gasp!! It did not WORK !!!! I tried every maneuver in the book – manually entering my IP address, DNS server configs, (anyone impressed yet?) all to no avail – it would not connect! Grrrrr…… I finally abandoned the project and went back to watching my old DVDs on my Bluray player, still unable to connect to the Net.....

Around this time, an old college friend came all the way from Austraaalia to visited me - eh ibon! (bullet!) I mean came to visit me and in an effort to entertain her, I bought a Bluray movie –Yay my first…. But when I inserted the disc, the player did not recognize it and would not play the movie ! (this is going somewhere I promise you), I tried again and again but – no success. I finally had a brain wave – aha! I would read the manual to see if there was a troubleshooting algorithm, which of course there was, and it instructed me on how to download the software update for the player from the Internet onto my computer AND how upload it into the Bluray player by burning the info onto a CD, which would now be inserted into the player to achieve this. After a few false starts, I was able get this done, and soon after I proudly placed the disc I had made containing the downloaded material into the player ...... I started hearing a whirring sound... (...Comforting sound in the computer world) and VOILA! It WORKED! I had broken through!, I was actually walking on the silver lining ! Not only was I now able to play the movie in HD (– you gotta see it to believe it!) I was now able to connect to Netflix and Pandora through my home network AND also to Blockbuster AND YouTube! Come and see American wonder!

At last!!!! Techno gratification………

You might say – is there a point to all this? Of course there is! Please read on…….

At the end of this process I was struck by how our mundane life experiences actually mirror spiritual principles and serve as wisdom points in our lives…

Let’s assume we are all DVD players and we undergo a rebirth to ‘Bluraydom’ – old things are passed away and behold all things are new right? Now in our new status, we try to connect to the 'spiritual airwaves' and find ourselves unable to do so, and so we try and try and try and TRY but to no avail… Some of us unfortunately get stuck at this point.... Not that trying is bad, but trying does not get Bluray connected to the 'net'. We then get (hopefully) to that AHA! moment when we realize that to move further and achieve our purpose, we have to refer to our product manual otherwise known as The Bible and receive instructions on how to download the latest software that will enable us to achieve our goal i.e. establishing a connection and being able to play Bluray movies, and connect to the 'Internet" at will.

Now some of us sadly do not move past this point of realization, but go back to playing regular DVDs on a machine that was designed to do more, living below expected standards, others make a perfunctory effort then give up, but others still, like you and I, take up the challenge, process the information obtained from the manual, go to the Great Internet - God the father, through our computers – God the Son, and download the Kilobytes that drive our updates – God the Spirit.

This powerful pack now inserted into our players - (our minds), updates the inner workings of the player, enabling it not only to play Bluray discs as it was designed to (process spiritual information and translate it to visually sense able form), but when turned on, now able not only to connect through the 'Net' to Netflix and Pandora as promised but as a bonus also to Blockbuster and YouTube AT WILL. He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly..... What a wonderful God we serve! And what an allegorical illustration!

Soooo… in conclusion the moral of the story is…………

God bless you all, and I love you, BethElRuach
